Our Mission:

Severn Classical Tutorial is a tutorial service established to support home school families providing affordable, distinctively Christian, high school level courses using the classical model of education.

A tutorial service is a supplement to your existing homeschool.  The tutors provide bi-weekly instruction, assignments for the week, and facilitate classroom discussion and debate.  Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Severn Covenant Church in Severn, MD.  Most of the student's academic work (reading, writing, etc) will take place at home.

The purpose of  Severn Classical Tutorial is:

To provide high school level group tutoring to help students meet or exceed College entrance requirements in the following academic disciplines: English Literature and Composition, History, Science, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, Electives (Art, Spanish, Apologetics, Hermeneutics, etc)

To follow the classical model of education, which emphasizes grammar, logic, and rhetoric in all subjects. The goal is to equip students with the tools of learning so that they know HOW to learn and HOW to approach problems. The tutors will utilize significant classroom interaction to go beyond the facts of the subject matter and teach students how to think, and how to apply what they are learning.

To provide distinctively Christian tutoring that teaches all subjects as part of an integrated whole with Scripture at the center. Scripture is the final authority on all issues. The goal is to equip students to reason from the presupposition that the basis for all truth and all knowledge is Jesus Christ and His revelation in Scripture. Our goal is to equip students to base all presuppositions, all thinking, all reasoning and interpretation of facts as ultimately thinking God’s thoughts after Him.

To be a ministry to parents. Our purpose is to support parents who home school and who assume ultimate responsibility for the education of their children. Severn Classical Tutorial is NOT a “school”, but rather a tutorial service. Parents are considered the primary educators and are responsible for the child’s performance. Severn Classical Tutorial is NOT an umbrella group. Parents are accountable to the Maryland Board of Education for all legal educational requirements.

To encourage every student to master the art of learning, develop a lifetime love of learning, and to live up to his or her academic potential.

"The education of children for God is the most important business done on earth. It is the one business for which the earth exists. To it all politics, all war, all literature, all money-making, ought to be subordinated; and every parent especially ought to feel, every hour of the day, that, next to making his own calling and election sure, this is the end for which he is kept alive by God - this is his task on earth."   R.L. Dabney

Severn Classical Tutorial is registered as a 501-C3 non-profit organization.
