Severn Classical Tutorial Roles and Responsibilities

 Responsibilities of the Board:

q       Define all Policies and Regulations

q       Plan and Schedule Classes for each school year

q       Approve class materials and plan/syllabus for each class

q      Interview and Select Tutors

q       Monitor and encourage Tutors

q       Remove ineffective Tutors

q       Conduct registration

q       Interview and approve Students

q     Set  fees

q     Collect Fees, Pay tutors and facility maintenance fees

q     Enforce Discipline policy if needed

 Responsibilities of the Tutors

q       Collaboratively select class materials with Board approval

q       Define lower limit of class size

q       Teach the class material assigned

q       Incorporate Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric Tools for learning the subject

q       Foster an interactive classroom environment (Socratic method)

q       Assign homework

q       Assign and grade papers, quizzes and tests (provide feedback so students can learn from their mistakes)

q       Keep record of students grades and provide grade history  to parents

q       Provide feedback to parents on student's progress

q       Maintain order in the classroom (e.g., remove disruptive students)

q       Provide status to the board as needed

q       Be available to clarify assignments, respond to questions (Tutor defines limitations such as email only or boundaries on phone calls)

q      Provide all necessary teaching materials (teacher copies of books, teacher manuals, handouts/copies)

Responsibility of Parents

q       Register students and attend student interviews

q       Pay all fees on time (class, registration, lab)

q       Purchase all required books

q       Ensure students arrive to classes on time.

q       Ensure students are picked up or leave on time at end of the day

q       Ensure students complete assigned homework and tests

q       Assign final class grades

q       Assume full responsibility for reporting to the State of Maryland Board of Education and/or Umbrella oversight group, and comply with all home school laws.

q       Seek to resolve concerns with teachers first and board second

q       Ensure students comply with Severn Classical Tutorial regulations and policies

Responsibility of Students

q     Attend student interviews

q      Attend class on time

q    Adhere to SCT dress code policy

q    Participate in class discussion as required

q    Maintain a respectful attitude toward classmates, tutors, and study hall monitors

q     Complete assigned homework

q       Adhere to policies and regulations of Severn Classical Tutorial
